Overall. I liked the book. I have more to say but it's work time so it will have to wait. I did not enjoy the ending it just felt like she wanted to add something to lead into the next book but I didn't like how it was done it started feeling like it was stretching. I'll be back with some more answers.

I have a review coming but this week has been draining. I'll review when I have a second though.

I really don't know how I felt about this book. Like I knew where it was going, or thought I did and really wished that it had gone that way instead of what actually happened.

I did like the beginning how it started. The film take of counting down to before the incident and then the count away of how long it's been going. I was enjoying the person to person view point and how one person would end on another person and then we would pick up where we left from the last view point to the new one. It gave me what movies are now starting to do where they "don't cut away" from scene to scene. Craig did a great job of this. I also enjoyed the dilemma of morality. What do we do when the blood runs out. Wait do we wait for the blood to run out because of what's occuring as we go. Parents split on each side of the fence. Do you give yourself completely to your children when they're like this.

Maybe as a bystander and not having kids the answer is easier for me. If you act the way they were acting. I'm keeping my blood and moving to the woods away from everyone. If I were a parent would I feel differently?

Three stars because I really really hated the ending and then that one couple that had zero stakes in the game and still did a foolish decision. I would have just preferred it all to have ended the world. It would have made sense, but that's not how it ended...and it is. I don't know. Something about it just rubbed me wrong. No me gusta.

I finished this yesterday but I been busy. I read horror stuff all the time and people say "ThIS wAs tHE scARieSt boOk IvE eVEr ReaD!" And I'm always like...it was fine. If it happened in real life I probably be worried if I saw it in a film I'd jump.

YALL! πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«πŸ˜Άβ€πŸŒ«οΈ

THIS WAS THE SCARIEST BOOK IVE EVER READ!  Let me preface this by saying my version was an audiobook. The narrator they got for this book was an ace in the hole. There were a couple times very few that she flubbed the little girls voice and used the wrong one but I appreciated it cause it brought me back to reality kinda so I didn't get stuck in whatever scene was happening.

I don't know how old that narrator was but she did a great job. Enough that I believed everything Bella said from start to finish. I also enjoyed the character development of the story. Could they have added more? They can always add more but it was just enough and just subtly enough that you could enjoy the story and still care about everyone. Their flaws their confusion. Even some minor characters which usually I hate backgrounding minor characters but I liked how they did this by giving just enough but not enough to go why do we need this info.

I absolutely loved the fact that all of this is told from a child's point of view and the confusion she gets from beginning and end and the decisions she has to make to that scene toward the end where she gets mad and you kind of get mad with her cause "why right this second and you don't even know if it will work?" The end... Y'all if you read the end...I may have been a pile of mush as everything just unfolds. 😭 And the way they make her perceive it 😭😭

Honorable mention this book made me want to get Cane Corso's and get them trained. Such good doggos. No one ever explained why they were only trained for the first floor though. Doesn't matter in the grand scheme I think it's just weird that they were only trained for that.

I loved this book. 4.5 ⭐ Only points taken off for those couple missteps in voice change.

This was so good. I may listen again some day soon.

So what do I think about this book. I think I wasn't a fan of half of the book and I loved the other half so three stars works. I loved the storyline that followed Jeffrey and Sara and then I was just uninterested in the line with Will Trent. As I said in my comments along the way. I'm not a fan of Will Trent. To ME he just comes off way too goody two shoes a Gary Sue if you will. To me. Yes they showed him with some WTF flaw moments, but they were kind of like small stuff to me. The type that don't really count at all.

I did enjoy following everyone in the present storyline, ignoring the love line that got thrown in. I think of it like what they do in movies you know they have that subplot of a romantic device so that guys and girls can take their significant other who like cheesy lovey dovey movies to see with them. Oooh Brother! I hate it. Give me the horror movie or action or whatever. If I want a love story I'll look for that. Anyway end vent!

The actual mystery of the Serial Killer was fun. I loved that. And Sara pouring that stuff down the toilet. πŸ˜‚ I laughed far too loud at that. I liked the line with Jeff because you get to see everything play out entirely and see if he was or he wasn't.

I didn't like the ending to who actually did everything it was just so rushed so felt like she couldn't explain how it had all happened so she just had them monologue it. Come on Karin. I also did not enjoy that one person who you find out is literally just one of those plot devices sent there to move the story along but really has no need to be there. SPOILER!!! SPOILER!!! SPOILER!!! SPOILER!!! Did  you honestly think you would get off on pedophile charges regardless what you had. It's funny because he really thought that. Yikes spikes!!

All in all the actual thriller and mystery part of this book was as good as Karin gives it was gorey and disgusting and that mother suckers was disgusting. Because you needed comfort. Just makes my eye twitch and my butt itch.

This was good for a short story. Had the chills I wanted and the mystery I needed. There were some holes but it was still a decent mindless read.

This book reminded me why I love and hate mystery thrillers. Just when I think I have it figured out, they trick me. It feels like gaslighting lol. This was a good one. I'll get a better explanation when it's not past my bedtime
