thought provoking, maybe a bit too smart for little old me! but some lovely moments with gorg writing. enjoyed all the references to other texts and artworks.

At this point, I couldn’t read about this repetitive, frenzied affair any longer. Barely anything changes, and I don’t understand Ida’s deep fascination with Arnold. I’m just not that into affair fiction, which I feel like is really in vogue atm.

The writing isn’t great. Very basic, telling not showing. And then I read this sentence, and I can’t go on..

“Ava sensed the policeman and the punk were both good men in similar ways and it always helped knowing there were good men in the world because you never knew when you might need them.”

???? I can’t.

why was the main character on such a moral high horse for 90% of this? she’s so annoying. sorry it’s hard to live in a world where bad things happen! where have you been the past thousand years?

Pulled it together in the end for some insightful writing about grief, but at what cost? I was driven to my wits end, and somehow also bored. Sorry, Sally.

Just not feeling it. Not sure the intensity of early motherhood really interests me. Can’t relate to her fierce love for her daughter. Feels very frenzied and very very contemporary. Just not vibing atm! Might pick it up again later.
