As someone that’s dealt with Sleep Paralysis since I was a teenager, this book (obviously) drew me in. It was an intriguing read, that took from different sources, & studies to support examples throughout. With that said it discussed different points of view- Paranormal, Spiritual, Medical, etc. The author used his own personal experiences to give some context to the subject as well.
Not gonna lie, it was a huge info dump that was hard to read straight for extended periods of time. I had to take breaks from it, & take my time with this one. But there honestly was a lot of interesting information, & I learned a lot from it!
I would honestly recommend this one to a fellow SP friend! ❤️

Ran across this series discounted recently, & thought I’d give this one a whirl!

WARNING; Below has Spoilers!

I thought the 3rd installment was actually the strongest- you see our main character Ivory become one with the night. But her ‘dream’ of becoming such a thing has consequences. I thought the concept they were leading with - of a banned drug giving vampiric abilities was kind of cool actually! So when they revealed of course that she was a part of a Royalty Bloodline- to be honest it ruined it for me.

I absolutely adored the art style, & the knowledge of the gothic subculture. Growing up I was heavily part of the goth scene, and I still feel connected to it in many ways. I don’t often dress the part anymore, but literature & music still hold a place in my heart. It was just refreshing to see that in this series.

There wasn’t much that stood out to me aside from that, but it was a cool short read!

As I’ve been a fan of Masterton’s writing for some time, I was extremely eager to finally read this one! With that said, I was alittle disappointed with this book unfortunately. Some of his previous works really set the bar, so this one fell pretty flat in comparison. Really intriguing premise that honestly had so much potential.

The first portion of the book in my opinion was strong. Before learning some of the details with how the patients came to be.. The atmosphere & tone of this book was honestly top tier! It left me wanting more, but things proceed to take a turn half way. The story becomes almost comical, and the characters are often times unbearable. It’s to the point where you don’t even care about the kid getting kidnapped anymore. lol

The ending deaths were supposed to be sad, & reflective.. but you can’t help but think ‘about time’!

There were some genuinely cool moments, but I personally wouldn’t reach for this book again!

This book was just okay in my opinion. Some great concepts/ ideals that eerily relate to our modern day world. In that sense I think this book was ahead of its time in that aspect.
Although, the writing style was alittle difficult for me to get through. I just wasn’t hooked, so it took me much longer than it should’ve to finish.
Great discussion book if anything, I’m not sure I’d read this again personally.
