what I loved about this book was how intertwined every character and scene was to other characters and scenes. these references to small moments and dialogue snippets made for very satisfying instances of deja vu. this book is also one of those books where the title doesn't seem super obvious until you turn it over in your mind a bit.
this book was also one of the most HEAVILY character-driven books I've ever read and was also genuinely one of the first books where I enjoyed the insight and voice of every character. not to mention the overall voice of this novel is so distinctly british
as far as my favorite characters go, I love both millat and magid (but wish the novel had more magid) archies low-key a cutie pie AND I LOVE ALSANA there wasn't nearly enough of her. samads cool too I guess.
also the book also includes a lot of references to genetics and biology at some point which made me feel so smart cuz I understood it mwahaha
above all what I noticed and loved about this book was how exaggerated the personalities of each character, and how they became caricatures of people you could definitely meet in real like (specifically in characters such as neena, Abdul-mickey and the entire chalfen family)
in conclusion, this was a heartwarming, healing, and remarkably unserious representation of imperfect relationships across generations, borders and culture
