The Bookshop: A History of the American Bookstore by Evan Friss

This was a really sweet way to start the new year. The history of bookshops and booksellers is vast. I loved learning!

Rule of Wolves by Leigh Bardugo

The way I love these characters.
So many twists and turns in this one that left my mouth agape. I hate to leave them forever so I will definitely be revisiting the Grishaverse

Honestly one of the best memories. Ina and Jeffrey are national treasures.
The Demon of Unrest: A Saga of Hubris, Heartbreak, and Heroism at the Dawn of the Civil War by Erik Larson

Listened on audio. Long and detailed account of events leading up to the Civil War - a lot of interesting things I never knew, but I definitely didn't retain as much from this as I expected. Still a worthwhile listen though

This gutted me on multiple occasions. The pacing was wonderful. The characters so lovable. I laughed, I cried (a lot).
Such a beautiful journey through grief.

I'm really going to miss these characters!
What a wild ride this last book has been. If you've readErik Larson's Devil in the White City you will find some of this familiar. Nonetheless compelling to the last second!

Trust by Hernán Díaz

Took a while to finish, only because it needed my full attention. When I was able to give that, what a ride.
It is the form and Diaz's play on truth (and trust we put in someone's words) that truly sealed the deal for me. Sentence structure, word choice, I could start it all over again.
If you read this like you read SJM or TJR or SK, you will miss it. Truly literary in its execution and obnoxiously stunning.
