the whole series, everything that could go bad for simon, does. it makes me so mad! this book is no different. that shouldnt have had to happen to him. what bullshit.

Better by far than the Mortal Instrument series, the Internal Devices is set in the same world where Shadowhunters and Downworlders reside. In this installment of the series, we see the precursors to the Mortal Instruments, including some familiar faces, like the flamboyant and powerful Warlock Magnus Bane, the seductive and wicked Vampire Camille, the cat Church, and even the ancestors of Jace and Alec.

Yet this story is really not about any of them. This is a story about a girl named Tessa. Come to London to stay with her older brother Nathaniel after the untimely death of her aunt, Tessa steps off the boat, only to be promptly kidnapped by strangers. Locked up in an abandoned whorehouse, Tessa is tortured day and night by the Dark Sisters. Under their watchful eye, Tessa learns that she is special, and that she had an ability very unlike any other Downworlder before.

Yet she is broken out by members of the London Institute, on a search for those who would murder innocent Mundanes, and taken in by the Shadowhunters. Now she must use her ability to save herself and her brother from the Magister before it's too late.
