so sweet and adorable, and I love the art style

I absolutely loved most of this, adored it. I like Clara, love Sal, and love the premise. I really did not like the ending though. Enough to take it down a full 1.5 stars :(

Sal goes through this major event and has everything in her life change, and Clara is just… the same. Unchanged, nothing about her character grows. They embark on a journey together because that’s what she wants, and she gets it. And Sal’s growth feels mean spirited, like Clara “fixes” her by the end of the book. Like sure she literally does fix her at one point but Sal isn’t treated like a person enough, not given any agency. She makes choices based on not having any and then makes one because she straight up has to after the shop burns down. For making a slight commentary on personhood it didn’t really delve into its own arguments, and in fact worked against them. Made me sad after I spent 71% adoring this book.

they were supposed to be gay and the executives who cancelled that are pathetic cowards. 

Better than I expected, a harsh yet poetic view of a boy growing into the reality of his landscape and learning how the men around him shape it. 

This is small town, just tacky small town. It’s shallow and cliche and not even in a fun way. 

Also, Ada is rude to literally every new person she meets, and they all still like her. It’s not believable and antithetical to the actual experience of being in a small town, where all it takes is one slight or difference to cause a  divide. I think her whole thing is supposed to be insecurity but that only works if she isn’t actually as unpleasant as she thinks she is. Wes’s issues are so surface level, and there is no real conflict between them besides her fighting their attraction for seemingly no reason. 

I think the horror in this one may be too real and i’m simply not strong enough. i’m also bored though

it’s a good musing on adolescence and growing into feelings, but it didn’t quite reach me. I think I wanted more variety in concept beyond “maybe everyone goes through a bit of perversion sometimes”
