So so sooooo much better than "All the Murmuring Bones." Everything I felt was missing in that book was here - the suspense was well-paced, the characters were more developed, and the world-building was more solid. Probably wouldn't re-read, but I definitely enjoyed reading it.

This book's concept was cool but wasn't very well-executed. The world-building started off strongly but started to fray when Mirin left her hometown. The random relationship that was half-heartedly tossed in there also just felt weird.

this read like interviewing a serial killer who has a pretty sad backstory but can't really explain why they do what they do. I also just don't quite enjoy when a random person is inserted into a novel for convenience - in this case, I felt that having a random man that encourages murderous behavior and literally supplies your victims just made for pretty sloppy writing. The writing also felt like it deteriorated over time, which I could get behind if the psychotic break is convincing enough, but it just wasn't here.

tldr: points for being creepy and initially suspenseful, but not so many due to plot holes and uninteresting repetition
