I am definitely starting to see the set up for the storyline finally. Also, this series is a lot darker than what I thought it would be. We delve into the bittersweetness of what Aoi left behind, of his existence, and the darkness that surrounds him being Omamari. This series is definitely much more on the darker/emotional side than that of Kamisama Kiss.

Volume 3 done. Still enjoying it but the mangaka still hasn’t gotten away from the only interactions between the two main characters as hero-damsel. I want there to be some actual plot going on besides there always being a crisis. Just asking for one normal interaction that isn’t Insta-love or dying.

I am loving the art style of this series. It’s delicate, ethereal, magical. I am like the idea of the plot.

However, I can’t put my finger on it yet but something just isn’t hitting me. I am not getting pulled in just yet.

Maybe it’s that the only interaction between Himaria and Aoi is that of a damsel-hero dynamic. Which is already getting old.

Maybe its how the story comes out quite simple to me so far, and that I could guess the ending. Granted we aren’t given much plot yet.

Or maybe it’s that the dialogue between all the characters has been repetitive since volume 1. “How can I help Aoi” “I want to help Aoi” “what can I do” “she shouldn’t be here” “we want her to leave” “Himari you should go” - I want more conversation.

I am not giving in just yet. I am hoping the series will pick up here soon.

First volume of this series and I really enjoyed it. I am excited to learn more about our main character Himari and Aoi (a Nue) and of course the shikigami. Then there is the mystery of the house and I am just loving it already. And the art style is absolutely stunning!

I have loved every single volume up until this one. It definitely felt more like a filler volume and we ended following every character that exists in this world. However this is still a favorite series of mine and will look past this one 🫶🏽😂.

It's been awhile since I finished a book fully. I have been picking up and putting down so many and honestly this one almost made the pile of books I haven't finished.

I really enjoyed the concept of the book, the magic, the characters and the overall arching theme. However, this is definitely a beauty and the beast retelling rather than the red riding hood that the vibes give. And when I mean you know it's a Beauty and the Beast retelling it's very obvious.

I enjoyed the characters and thought that they added to the story...somewhat. However all the side characters Raffe, Kiri, Neve, Arick, the five kings were just fillers in spaces and didn't have much personality to them.

Then there is the magic system...of which is never fully explained to us. There is a forest that is quite alive but we are never given the backstory on how it came to have magic. Then there is the whole folk lore of the five kings that once again we get very little explanation on, even the character Red keeps asking about this information and isn't given it!

Then you have the dual POV's with the sisters and I was not interested in Neve what so ever. The time gaps in this book and the jumping around created a lot of plot confusion (of which I felt like there was at least 3 different plot lines going on at once). However, Neve is well naive. While she does love her sister she only cares about herself and her own decisions and while I get she wants to save her sister she is blinded by everything.

In the end, I did enjoy some aspects of the book but wasn't totally won over by it. However, I would be interested to see Neve's development in For the Throne.
