Fireheart Tiger by Aliette de Bodard
5.0
Fireheart Tiger is very, very good. I often dislike novellas because I want more - the story somehow feels incomplete. But Aliette de Bodard tells a full, well-developed story with dynamic characters in an incredibly short span of pages. I would gladly read more about these characters and this world, but I don't *need* to for this story to feel full and complete.
Two notes:
1) The story is about an abusive relationship between two women. It doesn't get graphic, but this is a romance about two women and a fire spirit (elemental?), the politics surrounding them, and how entitlement becomes abuse.
2) I bought this as an ebook and there were a lot of formatting errors. Missing quotation marks that made dialogue hard to follow and words just missing from sentences. The formatting is probably an editing error, not an error on Bodard's part, so it didn't effect my review but if it will annoy you a lot, maybe try a print copy.
