Trouble the Saints by Alaya Dawn Johnson
5.0
This book went places I completely expected and that I never saw coming. There were times when it felt a little too disconnected - like the inclusion of some events didn't quite come together, but this book is about relationships and history and power, and in that way it ends up really powerful.
Futureland by Walter Mosley

I've had Mosley on my to-read list for a while and finally picked up one of his books after a story recently about him winning the National Book Award's Lifetime Achievement. It was very, very good and very, very bleak.
Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger

I wish I could give half stars. I loved this book a lot! Ghost dogs and monsters and banishing vampires and an asexual main character with ghost-summoning powers passed down through her Lipan Apache family. The one bit I didn't like was that the dialogue gets very clunky sometimes. Overall, a 4.5
Lalani of the Distant Sea by Erin Entrada Kelly

Such a lovely book. And there's a turtle friend!
Agnes Moor's Wild Knight by Alyssa Cole

Decided to try out some work from the romance genre. This was good! Strangely the sex scenes made me blush, which doesn't make a lot of sense, tbh, but i was a fun read overall.
The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco
3.0
This book was both very good and an absolute mess. I think it's strongest/best when focused on The Willows and Tea's training, but when it comes to the larger world, I feel completely lost. The pieces just aren't woven together very well. But there are lots of funny moments and I enjoyed a lot of the fashion things at the beginning. Overall, I'm moving on to the second book immediately and will very likely reread this one in a year or so.
Sister Mine by Nalo Hopkinson
5.0
Sister Mine is a little bit funny and a little bit sad and a little bit sweet and overall excellent. I would have read this all in one setting except I had to go to be, will definitely read again soon. Um, maybe don't read if twincest really bothers you. It's gods, so that's pretty run of the mill, but it was also an unexpected turn.
