Reading this book felt like I was having a stroke. Which is funny bc on the first day I started it, I actually did have a medical episode similar to a stroke.
I could not understand wtf was going on for the majority of this book. Especially the beginning. I could not tell you much about what happens in this book ngl. There were so many different places and people introduced throughout and just not enough description.
Battle scenes too. It’s so hard to follow along the battles because the descriptions are so minor. Maybe I’m just dumb, but I never usually have a problem picturing books so I don’t know.
I’m just hoping that when I reread it a year or two later when the next one gets released I’ll actually understand wtf was going on.

Honestly, the writing is really simple and pretty disappointing. The overuse of dialogue and underuse of reflection or action just made it seem so clunky and hard to get invested in the characters. Which is a little disappointing given the author’s sudden rise to fame—maybe I will check out a couple more books in case this just an early one.
Plot twists were good. I kinda guessed the first couple but the ending was somewhat of a surprise.
Not bad. But not good. Good if you want a quick read that you’ll move on from straight away.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 36%.

Honestly, I just needed a book that didn’t really appeal to me to keep my streak going until Onyx Storm.
If you’re into this, great. I wasn’t and that’s fine.
I’m not into dark(er) romances, and I can’t read stalker romances bc my brain won’t be like ‘hell yeah’. But I would’ve been able to deal with it better if there was heavier plot. But again I knew this wasn’t for me so just ignore this.

4.5
4.5 ⭐️ but could easily be 5⭐️. I really struggled rating this one because it was so good but I can’t bring myself to give it the full 5. I don’t know why.
This book was well written, well-built characters, and was so good. I’m so picky, so if I’m saying it, it has to be true.
Would I read this again? Probably not. (Hence the 4.5) but was it enjoyable? Absolutely.
I’ll definitely be reading from this author again, and keeping up to date on her work!

I liked this one slightly better than the other two. But I’m still going to say the same things.
Character. Development. PLEASE. PLEASE. PLEASE. PLEASE. PLEASE.
Giving them one trait doesn’t seem enough. Bennett is a fix-it and Kira is a failure. Fine. That’s cool. But add layers.
And also flesh them out by having the characters view things differently. Like Jeanie describes him as a fix it. But it would’ve made it so much better if all characters didn’t view themselves and each other in the exact same words. Jeanie could have seen it instead of Ben and he could actually develop as a character by denying it before eventually l seeing it himself and working towards not being like that.

Okay, this has been such a hard book to rate. Because at first, I was going to rate it 4.5 ⭐️. Because the start of the book was so overwhelming with the world dump, and pretty slow to start. Also because the author isn’t as descriptive as she could be and arguably how she should be. I’m one of those people who can picture books in my head but I just couldn’t with the places. I had to search up the Gauntlet bc I had no clue.
However, I could not put this book down. And the battle scenes must have been so difficult to write bc of how many people were involved. So credits are due.
I might change my review to 5 ⭐️ I’m still not sure. Bc I really really enjoyed this read.
But like…chapter 30 alone deserves 5 ⭐️ BECAUSE WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK.

Honestly, I just don’t think it lived up to the hype. Which is a shame bc I LOVE Ali Hazelwood and I was really excited to read it.
But apparently there’s going to be a second and I’m kind of excited for that.
But also I REFUSE. REFUSE. REFUSE. to picture ANY man with a buzz cut. REFUSE.

I knew what was going to happen the second the box was mentioned but WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK.
Extra note: I love men longing and pining so this book was a slay. I’m so upset at having to wait until April for the next one.
