The characters were interesting but the plot was sorely lacking. Barely kept my interest and I forced myself to soldier through it.

This book is a little long for my short attention span, but I thoroughly enjoyed it, and it was very good. I like a book that, when I'm reading, I don't see the words. Instead, I can see it play out in my mind like a movie in my head. This is a good book for that. The detail really brings this world to life, and you don't get repetitive information.
Spoiler Alert ⚠️
I just have to say how much I don't like Catelyn Stark, though. She should have listened to Ser Rodrik when he warned her about traveling the main road AND staying in the packed inn. And should have listened, but no, she thinks she's so clever. Then she is seen by a Lannister, and instead of coming up with a good lie, she kidnaps him. It's her fault Ned died, plus... Ned's fault. Why warn your dangerous enemy of what you have to do, knowing the high stakes? I'm still sad he had to die, though 😔 And Sansa, the dumb daughter, ugh. Why can't children just obey their parents... I mostly did. It's not that hard. Whelp, reckon I better get stared in the next book.

I can't get over the horrible writing. It's so bland and flat. The characters suddenly have no character, they're just flat and generic. The try-too-hard gushing feminism makes me want to barf, it's so fake, over-the-top and unappealing. There is a lot more things wrong that I can't stand, but it's a long list.
