🌵instructions for traveling west was an INSTANT favorite. truly, i love this collection so, so much. started making art with some of these poems right after i read them, because i want to read them over and over! themes of leaving a relationship, finding yourself, honoring your intuition, seeking belonging, and knowing “joy is not a trick.” 10/10 for me! aka ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️! (thanks to @thedialpress for sending me my copy!)
One in a Millennial: On Friendship, Feelings, Fangirls, and Fitting In by Kate Kennedy

you can say you’re one in a millennial, @katekennedy, but this book made me realize just HOW MUCH we 80s/90s babies have in common! 💖

listened to this one on audio (kate reads it, and she’s a podcaster, so she reads it well!) and was CRACKING UP and hootin’ and hollerin’ to myself at all the things i could completely relate to! it was a delight in so many ways, written with a sparkly and fun humor and witty wordplay i thoroughly enjoyed.

i wondered if my more sheltered, church-centric, gifted classes upbringing would mean most of this went over my head, but NOPE— that millennial culture seeped into everything and i’ve never felt so seen!

(and yes, i was the girl known for her ✨PGH✨ in school. you’re not surprised. 🙃✍🏼)

the cover? beautiful. the premise? promising! the representation? amazing. the setting? a flower farm! love! but overall? not my fave. 😔

the characters, while bringing neurodivergence and autism to the forefront, still felt one dimensional to me, and i didn’t buy their chemistry or connection at all. it didn’t have the build up and robustness i wanted, and it felt overly cheesy in ways that i didn’t love.

i wish this had been better!!! but it was still cutesy and i liked it, more for the bones and the hope i had (and the endorsement of two of my fave bookstore’s team members!)

for some reason, out of all the books i took to the beach, i thought reading the one with tons of murder would be most fun??? 😵‍💫

it starts with a couples reality show set on a remote location (like love island meets survivor) but it ends up more like frye festival with very little being fully established, and then a storm hits…

it’s in the style of “and then there were none” so expect that few people will make it out alive, and tbh, it got very “lord of the flies” toward the end, but it held my interest and had me concerned for who would survive!

⭐️⭐️⭐️ for this one!

ps — thank you @gallerybooks for the free book!

add this to your reading list this #pridemonth🌈✨ it’s such a fun pride and prejudice retelling, centered around a queer magazine with incredible found family community vibes, and it was such an honest exploration of self expression, desire and dreams, connection and community, and love.

okay i loved bellefleur's first book and really thought i'd love this one too, but i keep CRINGING so hard at so many details in it... the fact that she's named TRULY is bad enough, but the fact that her parents only talk in broadway song titles?!? you're kidding me. i can't. don't even get me started about how many times truly describes colin as "mole-splattered"??? also here's a line that stopped me in my tracks: "she smiled and – she was smiling." ...that's the writing vibe.

the chemistry between truly and colin just doesn't seem believable to me, and i didn't buy into their journey together, and it just ... didn't work for me.

the way this one is described as "spicy summer fun, small-town charm, and Big Feelings" is SPOT ON. truly the sweetest story, with characters that i fell in love with instantly. fisher gives grumpy, dejected chef energy, but underneath his grief over losing his sister and his michelin star, he has a heart of gold and brilliant talent and so much warmth. sage is all sunshine and adopted animals and a love for her small town, despite the ex lingering around causing strife. everything sage touches turns to gold and gets better, and of course, she gets her hands on fisher... and it's all a beautiful journey from there.

i loved my first read from tarah and can't wait to read more!

the sweetest employee at @bnlibbieplacerecommended this one to me when she found me staring at a wall of romance books looking (probably) helpless — i told her i was working on a summer reading guide and looking for books that matched the vibe of different shows, and as soon as i mentioned parks and rec, she grabbed this one so fast!

it definitely has the quirky small town cast of characters like parks and rec does, but is set in a high school and features way more students and sports, which was fun!

you’ve got a struggling girls soccer team, drama and pranks between teams and coaches, an old flame reignited, the cutest parents, redemption arcs galore, and so many endearing characters.

if you’ve ever wanted to redo high school or get revenge on your old bullies or find your way back from rock bottom, you’d love this one!

wow, this book is stunning. 🤩🦈🤍

my last (ever!) pick for #alltheradreadsbookclub was this gem that i’ve heard so many rave reviews about — and i’ll admit, the concept had me a bit skeptical! a man turning into a great white shark? it sounded cheesy or too sci-fi-ish or something, but it blew me away with how poignant and fascinating it ended up being!

this book reads like poetry — it’s truly remarkable and unlike anything i’ve read. i’m a fan of @emily.habeck for life now! what a talent she has. ✨

this is a must-read, one to savor, one to share widely and enjoy deeply.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️— a new top of the list contender for best book i’ve read this year.

i’ll be honest, finding out these characters weren’t even legal drinking age but were competing to get married to their ex on a reality tv show took me RIGHT on out of it all, but it was still entertaining? love seeing scumbag broskis get their due!!! love the girlies bonding and getting revenge and falling in love with each other instead!!!
