Rouge by Mona Awad
2.75
I really wanted to like this book but I just couldn’t. Parts of it were redeeming (last 20 pages maybe) but overall it felt like Awad was just writing weird stuff for the sake of being weird and uncomfortable. Nothing came together very clearly for me. I love her other stuff but Rouge really fell flat.

Wow. “Too late I realize that she has been the Summer of my life. What a slow and painful death this shall be." Perfect for fans of normal people, but in my opinion, even better. Painful, gorgeous, and so real. I loved this book.

So weird. So so weird. Definitely weird in a good way but I have to say for at least half of it I was sort of uncomfortable and uninterested. Interesting concept and obviously very applicable to our world today, but I think I would have liked it better had it been a bit more satirical. (Imo it takes itself way too seriously despite being the most ridiculous book I’ve read in a while)

Such a unique concept, I’m not sure I’ve ever read anything like this. I think because the format was so unique, there were a few stories/ segments that were so boring and therefore brought my rating down. Overall it was incredible but sometimes I was like snooze fest
