How to Murder Your Life by Cat Marnell
dark
emotional
funny
2.5
I'm of two minds on this book. I love the vibe here and Cat is so personable that it's easy to get past the 'privileged white girl' shit. It's full of party girl and rock star glam.
BUT
She does no actual growth or self-reflection and never once owns her part of anything that happens. This was written by someone who has made "addict" a facet of their identity, and as a result I suspect she won't seek that growth. I won't judge, I'm 20 years into eating disorder bullshit and recovery is just harm reduction after a certain point.
BUT (ONCE MORE)
The afterward with the 'haha but it's actually stimulants bad' stuff sent me. As a person with ADHD who needs them to sleep, eat, shower and work a full-time desk job she can absolutely fuck all the way off with that attitude. ADHD is still underdiagnosed in women. It took Covid levels of schedule dysregulation to pursue my own diagnosis; a diagnosis that was overlooked for decades because I didn't have the privilege of just asking and could pull good grades in spite of it.
