This book took MONTHS to finish. I had no idea who the characters were besides Jaki and DD. It’s written in second person of Maali who is trying to figure out where the negatives are of his photos (as a ghost) because he doesn’t know who killed him. He has 7 moons to figure out how he died. 1.5 because the language was beautiful but I had to do audiobook 1.8x for moons 4-7 because it was just impossible to read.

This book was so boring. It wasn’t a page turning almost murder mystery so don’t go into it thinking you’ll be on your toes. POVs alternate between Saffron and Alexander and you don’t realize for a bit but in the print version there will be little leaves between paragraphs to indicate. I have no desire to continue the series.

This was very boring. I guess most of the stories relate to houses but the stories aren’t connected. 1.2, skip.

A poetically written novel imagining 2 Indigenous peoples and lands working together who are in reality thousands of miles apart on the Pacific Ocean. Nuttall has written love letters to her people, land and ancestors she otherwise doesn’t know due to colonialism.

Yawn, boring. 1.5 because you can read it but you’ll be turning the pages waiting for it to end. It’s not even about the murder mystery it’s about Reagan and Cade’s secret relationship. When I read a legal thriller I want THRILL!

Carson effectively writes love letters to her friend who mysteriously passed away. Between the chapters are email threads of years prior retelling the stories of young adult women who don’t see each other often. I haven’t suffered loss of a friend but I imagine the grieving process looks like these questions after death and stories you wish you could tell your loved one about the mundane parts of life.
