Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert
5.0
Talia Hibbert is a fantastic writer and I will sing her praising all day long! I spent one sleepless night blowing through this story and I loved every second of it.
The way Hibbert weaves romances is incredibly engaging. In each of her books, the characters take centre stage, and each have their own wants and needs. I love seeing dueling perspectives done this well! It really opens the door to allow us to see both side of the relationship in meaningful ways and I never feel like one character is better written or more well liked by the author than the other.
Jacob is a total gem in this!! I was a little worried I wouldn't like the Eve/Jacob dynamic, but quickly fell in love with their banter. The leading men in this series are not just desirable cardboard cut outs for us to project onto, they are interesting people with their own issues and opinions. It makes all the normal romance tropes more fun to read because it feels less one sided. I can relate to Eve and to Jacob both individually in different ways. I was worried the first chapter that I wouldn't connect with Eve like I did with Chloe and Dani, but by chapter 2 I was convinced this would be a favourite.
Hibbert has a talent for sharp dialogue and I had some actual laugh-out-loud moments (in the middle of the nigh too, looking like a crazy person). It was a delight and I look forward to re-reading this series again in the future as I (not so patiently) wait to see what Hibbert does next.
