Any Way the Wind Blows by Rainbow Rowell

slow-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix

1.5

2023 reread:
I'm gonna be generous and give this 1.5 stars (.5 for the happy endings). I still like the writing style and how the whole climax was written (with SO many things happening at once but it isn't hard to keep up with). The first half was so boring and yes, I get it that everyone's going through their *things* but maybe it could be a little edited down?? and don't get me started on simon and baz's kinky moments (not kink-shaming, but I did Not expect that to pop up 3 times in this book).

Penny/Shepard and Agatha/Niamh's getting-together stories were sweet, but I just realised that they all have the same dynamic: begrudgingly-friends(?) to lovers. I wanted more of them! And their chemistry too! Penny and Shepard make sense, but Agatha and Niamh were so rushed and felt like they were written just for the readers and not for love! Give my goatherder lesbians justice!!

In summation, I'm just happy I'm done with this book for the second time. I still stand by Fish's review (below)
