1 Plot

.5 Characters
having Alix’s inner monologue made her even more unlikeable—which was probably the point—and only gave an opportunity for Kelly—a man 🤢—to be right about her. Emira on the other hand would’ve been more relatable to me when I was also in my mid twenties, but I did enjoy spending time with her and Briar 🤗
0 Setting
I’ve never been to Philly, and this didn’t make me feel like I want to. Even Alix is desperate to not be a Philly resident. 🦅

1 Originality

White people foolishness I’ve never encountered before, literature or otherwise. 🤦🏼‍♀️
.5 Emotional Impact
This would’ve been nil up until Emira had her sweet little goodbye moment with Briar. 🥹 It hit close to home with my 18yrs+ of experience in childcare.
.5 Ending
The “twist” of Alix believing her own lies for over a decade was the final nail in her white savior crucifix.
.5 Overall enjoyment
Would I recommend this to a friend? Meh, depends on the friend.
