The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
5.0
Updated review 2018~
So the good news is: in my second reread I did not weep as hard as the first time, but I did tear up in a couple of scenes.
The book is still as captivating, and I'd still consider it one of my top favorites.
I was able to appreciate the writing style a lot more this time. I would literally just pause for a minute to taste the beauty of the language in certain sentences. So beautiful!
What I also noticed this time around is how "human" the emotions the characters went through were. I could understand and validate everything they expressed, and the actions that resulted from their feelings. Especially Achilles, I remember hating his pride and egotism when I first read the book, but now I somehow get it, and can even relate.
I was surprised that I had painted some parts differently in my memory, also, some characters that I did not remember their story lines extending as they did, but again it's been 4 years, it's normal to forget some details- But I really thought I had it all right.
My expectations for Miller's new book Cicre are up the roof right now. I hope it doesn't disappoint.
I'm also excited to watch Troy again!
First review 2014~
Saying it deserves 5 stars is an understatement.
I finished reading this book with my face soaked with tears, warm heart, and a great goofy smile on my face. I am still in some sort of a trance because of how GOOD this book is.
No it is not just good It is:
Extraordinary
Captivating
Tremendous
Outstanding
Intriguing
Fabulous
Wonderful
Amazing
Magical
Remarkable
and so much more..
This could actually be my favorite book. It could be the one!
I bought this book with not the slightest clue about it, and usually I buy books based on recommendations or ones that I searched on goodreads or booktube and found interesting, but I bought this from the airport a year ago only because I love Achilles (with all his flaws, childish acts, and pride, he is my favorite Hero) and I had high expectations for this book. My expectations were met and more. _Note to self: Buy books blindly more often_
My only problem is:
1- The HEEL! The Tendon goddamn it!! listen here Madeline Miller, you can change whatever you like but DO NOT TOUCH Achilles heel!
I don't know what else to say.. READ IT PEOPLE!
***BEWARE: The synopsis on the Arabic version has a spoiler that I read while accidentally passing by it in the app المكتبة الجامعة T-T
