Night of Cake & Puppets by Laini Taylor

5.0

So going into this story I already knew that I loved Zuz and Mik - independently and as a couple. But this story actually gave me butterflies, which never happens with romance novels (I tend towards eye rolling and sighs is displeasure). It managed to somehow blend Zuzanna’s bravado with a magically atmospheric setting/tone. I was worried that several years after having read Laini Taylor I might have grown out of the story, but I was still spellbound by the magical marionettes, treasure hunt, flying origami, repurposed Hamlet soliloquy about cake, and ‘violin boy’... The wit and quirkiness (done in a very natural way - not like that forced hipster crap [no eighties soundtrack here]) of the magic and conversations make for such a ‘different’ read. I’m having a hard time explaining this... basically this book was so cute it made me squeal - (don’t tell anyone though).
