The Girl Who Broke the World by Renee Hayes

Did not finish book. Stopped at 9%.
Unfortunately I DNF this book at 10%

Firstly, the prologue is an entire chapter of world building. It’s a total info dump that we are expected to remember and apply into the story, which doesn’t get recovered later. I have no connection to this world to give me the motivation to apply or care about this knowledge.

Secondly, the dialogue is just so …. Stilted. They don’t sound like people when they talk. Honestly they came across as very robotic and I just couldn’t get into the story, especially considering that talking is a huge part of the book.

Thirdly, and while I don’t have an explanation for this as I didn’t get far enough into the story, the FMCs life / mom just made no sense. Her mom was protective and wanted to keep her safe/have a normal life but pulled her from school, forbade her from going into the village and told her to trust no one? Yea that’s totally normal.

I hope this book finds its audience, it just wasn’t me.

Thank you to the Nerd Fam and the author for a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest thoughts.
