Child of All Nations by Irmgard Keun
fast-paced
- Plot- or character-driven? Character
3.0
I really enjoyed the story of political exile told from a child's perspective. I've read other books that use a child's perspective and have had mixed feelings, but I thought in this case it was a creative way of mixing colorful fictional characters with the colorful autobiographical story of the author herself.
The child narrator was also pretty effective at conveying the anxiety, the loneliness but also the absurdity, felt by someone fleeing from their country's politics (in this case from Nazi Germany).
I'll definitely be reading more of this author.
