This was a well-written and memorable YA novel. I listened to and read this book and given the themes of music in this novel, the audiobook version was especially engaging. The characters face significant challenges, mainly during key historical moments in the early-mid 20th century. The author did an excellent job detailing their plights, perspectives, and feelings in a way that facilitates empathy and understanding.
