How dare Rebecca Ross do this to Iris and Roman? The way this book had me in a complete chokehold for the entire book was simply unfair. This book did not release the pressure right up to the very end; Ross was able to give small releases only to build that tension right back up almost immediately after for the entirety of the book. Her portrayal of the realities of war and her messaging around how important everyday people are in standing up to injustice were so powerful. I do not exaggerate when I say I absolutely had to finish this book and that I cried at the end. I want more of Iris and Romans story while I am simultaneously glad for them to have their peace and happiness together. I feel the need to immediately go and read more of Ross’s books, while also being afraid that nothing can live up to this duology.
