Residents of Honeysuckle Cottage by Elizabeth Davidson
5.0
10/17/24 I posted about folk horror today on Instagram. A bunch of recommendations. The author of Foxash (one of my recs) told me I should read this book. She wrote,
"Seek out #residentsofhoneysucklecottage the ultimate queer UK #folkhorror novella by @elizabethdavidsonx I loved it."
So I jumped in. Immediately. It's available on Kindle Unlimited. This is *peak* folk horror vibes. A couple have purchased a rundown farmhouse on some property in a rural area. They want to fix it up as a vacation rental flip. After meeting a strange young man and some of the townsfolk, things become tense between Laura and Monique.
Some of my *favorite* folk horror elements are represented here--including a very insidious, slow-creeping build-up of tension and dread. Little clues to collect like breadcrumbs. All these little, concerning red flags.
I loved it. I'm hoping the author writes more.
