Harlem Shuffle by Colson Whitehead

4.0

Great character development, and the plot really moves in the last third of the book. Harlem and NYC play central roles in the story. I especially liked the ending that alluded to the development of the World Trade Center by a powerful family, the disruption it's construction caused. Perhaps some foreshadowing for future stories with Ray Carney and his circle. I really I am glad to see Whitehead writing in different genres. Can't wait to see what's next. Oh one more thing. I presume he is writing in the aftermath of George Floyd's murder and connects it to the riotous scenes from Harlem in 1964. The issues of police violence are powerfully in sync.
