Hum If You Don't Know the Words by Bianca Marais

5.0

Such a beautiful story, written with two POV, Robin Conrad a nine-year white child and Beauty Mbali. Both in the 1970s Apartheid-era in South Africa, Robin's parents killed in Johannesburg and later one her world crosses with Beauty in a ways that should never have happened.
The story is told from their alternating perspectives, the story is complex, tense and full of ideas that no 9 yr old should have to face but Robin faced with the strength of a lion in my opinion. Beauty's story shows the love of family that all children deserve but not all are blessed with.
Marais writes beautifully and atmosperically that you can see the story in your head as you read, you feel for Robin & Beauty and become so invested in their story. I loved it
