Through the Night Like a Snake: Latin American Horror Stories by Lina Munar Guevara, Sarah Coolidge, Antonio Díaz Oliva, Mariana Enríquez, Mónica Ojeda, Julián Isaza, Camila Sosa Villada, Tomás Downey, Maximiliano Barrientos
5.0
The stories in this anthology are so creative, and the translators did an excellent job. Some of the images from this book will stay in my head for the rest of my life. Themes in the stories are corruption, cults, growing up under a dictatorship, and toxic family.
My favorite stories:
• That Summer in the Dark by Mariana Enriquez, translated by Megan McDowell
•Soroche by Mónica Ojeda, translated by Sarah Booker and Noelle de la Paz
•Visitor by Julián Isaza, translated by Joel Streicker
•Lazarus the Vulture by Claudia Hernández, translated by Julia Sanches and Johanna Warren
•The House of Compassion by Camila Sosa Villada, translated by Kit Maude
