The Black Flamingo by Dean Atta

4.0

So many beautiful lines...

So many powerful words said. I wasn’t expecting this to be a poetic verse novel, but I’m glad i came into this book with a fresh slate because I feel like through Michael, I learned a lot and resonated a lot with the plight of a young black queer guy just trying to be himself. And may I just say the cover of the book on the edition where he’s covered in black and pink feathers—-like a Black Flamingo—- is STUNNING. Words can’t describe the beauty of this book cover. If beauty had words it would definitely be this book, this message, this iconicness.
