I was excited to get reading this one, as I really enjoyed ‘The Appeal’ by Janice Hallett. Disappointingly it was pretty slow to get into, but I decided to stick it out and hope for the best.
The story was told in the form of transcripts of recordings made on a mobile phone by Steven Smith. There were deliberate mistakes made in the text due to pronunciation and sounds, but this made it sound like Steven was talking to me as I read.
In the end, I was very happy I persevered with the book, as the ending was completely different to what I expected. Let’s just say the world should be happy I’m not a detective.
