We Begin at the End by Chris Whitaker

5.0

This book will, hands down, be one of my top reads for 2021.

There were so many things I loved about this book. First and foremost, the characters were complex and had so much depth. There were so many characters I enjoyed, but Duchess and Walk were definitely my favorites. And even the complexity of Vincent was absolutely amazing; my heart just broke for him while reading.

It’s very impressive when a book that made me bawl like a baby also made me laugh out loud several times. Duchess’ one-liners were pure gold and so witty. And then I cried so hard for the last 10-15 pages that I could barely see the text, so...I felt all the emotions during this book.

It was definitely a slow burn, but it worked so well, and the timing of events of was perfect. I didn’t expect the twist(s) at the end, but even if I did, I would love this book just as much. It’s about so much more than solving a crime; it’s about coming to terms with the past and trying to move forward, even when it doesn’t seem possible and the world has moved on without you.

There are so many more things I could add, but I’ll end with this—PLEASE READ THIS BOOK!
