✨MINI BOOK REVIEW✨
It has been a hot minute since I’ve reviewed a book that wasn’t an ARC. I got so burnt out last year by reviewing every single book I read so this year I’ve been limiting it to ARCs and books that just blow me away. This is the latter.
I got this book on KU after connecting with the author on Instagram and I hate that I didn’t know about it sooner.
This book is such a perfect balance of betrayals, power, and love. The magic system is like nothing I’ve read before where our casters pair with spirits to get powers through a ring that once put on, can never be removed. The power is a drug and like anything has consequences when used too much.
I think that Winn gave us world building in a way that didn’t feel overwhelming and I was able to connect and fall in love with the story very quickly, especially considering it’s fantasy.
My jaw dropped multiple times throughout the story as twist after twist was thrown at us, most of them I couldn’t see coming, but once it was revealed they made perfect sense! I applaud Winn because it’s very hard for me to NOT guess the twists, and the fact that she snuck these by me is a testament to how engrossed in the story I became, instead of trying to connect the dots.
The cliffhanger was the best and simultaneously worst part of the book. The ending was fantastic and I am so frustrated that I can’t immediately dive into the next book!
It’s been a bit since I read this book, as I had to truly sit with it and process it to be able to type this review, but I can’t get it out of my head. It put me in such a delicious book hangover. Winn gets all of my applause, and my dedication as a fan going forward.
