The Green Mile by Stephen King

5.0

I finally get why people love this story so much. My husband never follows my reading progress but he did with this. TGM has jumped right up my list of King favourites and I think it's on par with Needful Things as my number 1 King read 👌 I don't get choked up when reading books but there were so many points in this book that brought me close! This book is so incredibly well written and unlike some King books I've read there was no waffle whatsoever. Every single word just added to the story.
.
John Coffey - "Coffey like the drink, only not spelled the same way" - is a gem of a character, along with Paul Edgecomb and Brutus 'Brutal' Howell. I knew bits and bobs about the film but when Coffey walked The Green Mile I just wasn't prepared for that or for Delacroix 😓 In contrast to these guys, there's the abhorrent Percy Wetmore & the demeaning  Brad Dolan (admittedly, one is worse than the other) which King writes so well. King can write such contrasting characters; even giving a mouse so much character that you can't help but consider him as much a part of the story as John or Paul.
