My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry by Fredrik Backman
5.0
I'm not really sure what to say about this one, outside of you should go read it.
It's a bit of a sad book, as you can guess from the blurb, but it's so many things in just one book. There's whimsy and mystery and laughing and crying and all the things. Also, having lived in Sweden 3.5 years, it was fun for me to see the little bits that gave me nostalgia, like the Daim bars and Britt-Marie's excessive passive aggressiveness. If you aren't that familiar with Swedish things, there might be an occasional google required (Daim bars are like Skor bars, if that helps), and sometimes the translation had a bit of a hiccup. For the most part though, it was beautifully written, and I wouldn't have expected that to hold over in translation as well.
Go read it, it's definitely my favorite book of 2019 and possibly one of the best I've ever read.
