Guardians of the West by David Eddings
Did not finish book. Stopped at 30%.
There has been absolutely no plot so far, and without plot sexism, ableism, and racism are abundantly suffused throughout the character interactions. While I wouldn't say that the first series in this world was lacking in it's own issues, there was at least enough plot, traveling, and world-building to distract from them. The female characters also at least held their own throughout the adventure and were memorable in of themselves. However, seeing the characters in a more domestic setting absolutely spotlights all of the problematic bits because there is literally nothing else going on.
I went ahead and read some other reviews for this book, which let me know that the plot doesn't get going until over the 50% mark and that the overall plot of this series very closely mirrors the overall plot of the original series. While I do have fun with Eddings' lighthearted writing, I just cannot push myself to read more of this. I think that if I ever do decide to try again, I will just start with book 2.
