A Shadow on the Glass by Ian Irvine

4.0

This is an epic fantasy (which has been on my shelves for about 10 years). I found it a bit daunting to begin with, the explanation of the worlds, the various races and the becoming was a little confusing for me to grasp straight away but I stumbled through. I'd say that if you enjoy stories with really fleshed out characters and thought out worlds then you'll enjoy it. The description of certain towns, especially Shazmak were so spot on, but not so comprehensive that you want the author to hurry up and move back to the action.

A large portion of the novel was Karan and Llian running from large groups of warriors for various reasons, so the action is there for people who want plot based momentum. I thought Llian was going to have a bit of an epiphany about the histories and how false they seem to be as he finds out more and more but that never really came to fruition.

There are a bunch of strong female characters which is fantastic. I'm interested to know what happens to the characters because there definitely wasn't a resolution at the end but the sheer size of these novels means it will have to wait until I have a decent amount of time!
