Every stage of lives brings new challenges. And in this story, Fern has grief on one shoulder, uncertainty on the other and in walks a disappointment from 9 years prior.
Will’s ass just marches in after 9 whole years. To the same resort Fern planned to meet him at years ago. I mean, I couldn’t imagine. But as the story unfolded, I kinda understood where Fern stood. Being faced with running a partially - declining resort after the death of a parent had to be hard. Especially living their all of her childhood.
I saw how her relationship with her mom played a part in her current life’s decisions. But, the only thing I didn’t like was how she pushed Jamie aside - relationship wise. He could’ve been good for Fern but she probably would’ve broken his heart over and over.
This one was a slow burn but it turned out better than I’d expected. Especially getting to the truth that Will kept for so long.
I also liked the journal entry’s that were shared. I couldn’t imagine reading a journal of a parent. But to see them as people outside of their obligation to you is important.
Loved Peter! 🥰 And his everlasting love for Fern. The Roses were a trip, the wife talked a bit to much though. Overall, this was a pleasant read.

It’s giving, “I thought I was ready then, but I’m sure now” if that makes sense.
