In a series of brutal attacks, several flashy women with a love of shoes are victimized and their shoes are stolen. Grace is worried by the fact that the MO is pretty similar to a series of attacks from years ago--ones that were never solved.
From the reader's perspective, we're led into the interior lives of several men who could be the guy. All of them creepy, and all of them far too interested in designer shoes.
