A Sunny Place for Shady People: Stories by Mariana Enríquez

3.0

I have a goal to read more translated fiction (especially from places I haven’t read from before!). Since I've always I wasn’t quite sure if I could stomach Tender is the Flesh right now, so I made this short story collection my first from Mariana Enriquez. As is common for me with horror short story collections, I found this to be a satisfying read overall but wasn’t particularly blown away by any particular story. I’d also say the first half was far stronger than the second, at least in terms of my enjoyment.

I would definitely read more from this author in the future though. I liked that she could create a very eerie atmosphere with such few words.
