I can not imagine reading Tucholsky in any other language than German. Of course there's the translatable part of it – the relaxed character dynamics, the carefree feeling of vacation, the love between close friends and between lovers (and how they don't necessarily have to be different things). But there's also the part that's just the German language – or the way Tucholsky uses it, plays with it. Really, nobody does it like him.
