We All Looked Up by Tommy Wallach
5.0
let me just start this with two words: holy shit.
everything about this book was a banger. this book simply was so much more. it was SO MUCH MORE with such simplicity and casualty in the writing style and general radicalness. the characters had stereotypical roles, but they were just so much MORE.
the way each character was presented in the story made you feel like you knew them for years. you would consider their feelings, think about their hobbies and dreams and passions. maybe it was just me being too sucked into this book that i felt like an extra character, but this book was the reason i felt this way, anyway. it was that good that it transported me to the other side.
i fucking loved the constant reminder of Pyrrhic victory, and "karass". it gave everything a connection and warm feeling in the stomach.
i actually fell in love with the author (who's also a musician) and his writing style. it felt very familiar and casual and it seemed so easy-going and chill. i loved how he mashed his two passions (music and writing) into this book.
i really don't want to add any spoilers, but the plot really escalated in the end. I guess that's what happens when it's the fucking apocalypse, but everything happened too fast even when it actually took a longer period of time in the plot itself. this book made me laugh a lot, too. and feel a pang of pain in my chest when something sad happened. this book moved me in all the right ways. all in all, this book rocks.
