Well. That ending was abrupt and shocking and… not what I saw coming. A heartless resolution on behalf of the author, you might say. Still feeling a bit disoriented. Anyway, I wish I could talk about it, but that would make this a spoilery review, so I’ll leave it for you to find out.
But looking back on the entire story… absolutely wonderful. The lively descriptions of sweet treats. The whimsical characters that jumped right off the page with how well-written and well-rounded they were, so different from one another and so loveable. The fairytale-ness of the world, every aspect of it so immersive and alive. And, of course, the frequent mentions of tea (it is set in Wonderland, after all).
If you mix Alice in Wonderland, The Princess Bride, nods to random fairytales and a strangely fitting fantastical sci-fi-esque vibe, this is what you get, and I’m here for it.
