Beautiful travel memoir from 15th century Japan.
I lament not being able to read in the original language, as I'm sure a lot of the nuance and imagery the kanji evoke surpass the best English translation but I lack the skill. Overall it was a beautiful travel memoir that inspired me to dream of my own pilgrimage across ancient Japan.
Also note, I highly suggest looking at photos/art of the destinations in order to enhance the imagery and poetry.
I love that it took almost the entire memoir for a tale of genji mention; but it still being there nonetheless. I typically read 8th/9th Japanese literature and some 20/21st century so reading something like this that kind of exists in between those times really evoked a nostalgic emotion of just how vastly ancient Japanese culture and structures really are.
