I'm pretty much reading these as soon as they come out now and no book in this series has disappointed me! This book is on par with the beauty of the other books, and excels in some ways also! I adore Adam's character arc in this book, as well as how the relationship between Reyzee makes it to the next level. Actually, the relationship developments amongst all of them are pure gold in this book! The humor is on point, the boys continue to perfectly delight and entertain, and the ending of this book! Wow! As the penultimate book of the series, the author has absolutely blown it out of the park! I cannot wait for the final book now!

Knowing what I know now about this book, would I still read it if I went back in time?
Absolutely!

See below for the four criteria I use to decide whether and when to read a book

CHARACTERS: I love Adam, Victor, Zee, Tom, and all the other characters, in every book, and for this book, Adam has really shined. I adore watching his character arc, watching him come into his own. He stands for what he feels is true, for those he loves, and he truly has a heart of gold. One of the best lines sums it up perfectly (but I'll paraphrase because it's better to read it in situ!): "you have an incredible amount of power. Stop denying it." And he doesn't. He's coming into his own in such a brilliant way in this book! And Reyzee are pure perfection too!

PLOT: The plot for this one is so fitting for the penultimate book in the series. Not only are we in the midst of a mystery, but the newest mystery also draws upon the larger, overarching conflict that's been trailing them throughout the series. We come face to face with Gideon Cain again and the stakes are truly heating up! Adam and Reyzee are once again refusing to let innocent Lost Ones be taken and in danger. This time it's more than just puppies in pies. But succeeded involves going against both Gideon Cain and the Chief Commissioner for the police! And what an ending. Wow.

EMOTIONAL INTENSITY: There is no good/bad here. Sometimes I just want a low-investment entertainment read whereas other times a high-stakes 'I need a therapist to recover' is what I need.

2/5: low. The nature of these books is meant for a lower intensity, but there's still enough to truly connect with and fall in love with these characters. An easy and delightful read that's still action packed!

CATHARTIC FULFILLMENT: Is the emotional journey worth it? Do I finish this book feeling that I've crested the wave of the climactic moment and everything has been settled, leaving me settled and fulfilled?

90%. It's not a cliffhanger, but still an unbelievable ending that I didn't see coming! Wow! I can't wait for the final book!
