While it started off a bit shaky and seemed like a debut novel, I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly this book hit its stride and I ended up being very impressed with the writing. Unlike many authors writing Regency fiction, I feel that Atwater actually does a great job at capturing the elevated speech one would expect from the era. And this also carries over beyond the dialogue, making it feel much closer to an Austen novel than many who attempt to mimic it. I also thoroughly enjoyed the characters, the romance, the plot and the resolution (this last one in particular because it wrapped things up so nicely).
