I received this book through BOTM club as my
February reading selection. I went into the read blind, selecting the read solely based on title. Rachel’s story immediately pulled me in. Her resolve to locate her children who were forcibly taken from her over the course of her time on the Providence plantation. After the passage of the Emancipation Act of 1834, she is determined to reunite with all of her children in their newfound freedom. Freedom, Rachel does not see herself having without her children. The novel is the story of Rachel, her children and the lengths she will go to and through to find them.
