Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer
5.0
“Isn’t this the purpose of education, to learn the nature of your own gifts and how to use them for good in the world?”
This book is sprinkled with beautiful quotes but I like this one the best in relation to this review. Robin teaches, inspires and learns with us on this journey of gratitude and deeper understanding of the human experience and it’s relationship with the land. It offers solutions, myths and personal anecdotes and stories about the land, nature and plants. It took me a few chapters to realise it was more than an exploration of plants and indigenous history (although she does this truly beautifully too) but a calling for change in a poetic and almost achievable way. If only world leaders, managers of manufacturing companies and consumers caught in a capitalist spiral could take some time to read this book and then maybe change might begin…
