The Many Daughters of Afong Moy by Jamie Ford

3.0

I've always loved Jamie Ford's writing, but it let me down in this book. I appreciate that he was doing something different, but I didn't connect with most of these characters. I'm not sure if they were supposed to blend into each other to strengthen the idea that all of these women were experiencing the trauma of their lineage, and that was the point, or if there was a lack of development. Most of the women seemed pretty powerless in affecting their outcomes, and it was a bummer. I found the ending interesting—seeing some attempt at regaining control—but overall, I was not satisfied.

2.5*
